Did you know that the natural state of the body is to be pleasurable in itself?
Sadly, most of us have a body that’s more or less in a constant, habitual stress response (fight, flight, freeze, fawn).
And many of us have learned that pleasure is bad, shameful, inefficient, addictive, or unimportant.
The good news is that we can train ourselves to feel more and more pleasure! It’s super easy and only takes a couple minutes. Here’s how:
1. Let go of what you’re doing for 2 minutes. You can even do this at work!
2. Close your eyes or soften your gaze and drop into your body. Find a place that feels relatively pleasurable. (If you can’t find one, pick a neutral place that’s devoid of heavy emotions or pains)
3. Focus your attention on the pleasurable or neutral space, notice the sensations, and breathe, relaxing into them.
4. Expand the feeling! Visualize and feel the spreading of those sensations into other parts if your body. You can move to amplify it further, even micro movements are beneficial.
5. Repeat as often as needed. I recommend doing it every hour. Set a timer as a reminder if it’s helpful.
